Knowing God, really knowing Him, changes our prayers. Reliance on His nature, power, and His closeness as our Heavenly Father, transforms our prayers. Today we will learn that prayer is all about God. This is Pastor Marttunen’s final message in this series. Next week is the start of a new series, “Christ in Focus”. Audio / Questions

If we want the love of the Father in us, we must guard our affections. We must not fall in love with what this world has to offer us. Yet, this is no easy task since the world surrounds us with many competing affections. How can we live in this world but not fall in love with it?

God Talk #2 - September 21, 2008 AM
Dave MarttunenThe Great Commandment - loving God with our heart, soul, mind and strength, and our neighbor as ourselves - shapes our prayer life. We cannot love God and harbor resentment, nurture bitterness, or ignore forgiveness. Our prayer is nurtured by our love for God (which defines what is best) and our love for people (wanting God’s best for them). For this reason our prayers always lead us to self-examination, and humility. We adjust to what God wants. Our prayers for others demonstrate our own spiritual maturity. We pray what we know, what we desire, what we experience. Shallowness, immaturity, and disobedience hamper our prayer life. Growth, maturity, and development in Christ all lead us to pray with increasing effectiveness and thankfulnessStudy Questions
Walking as Jesus Did - Sept 21, 2008 PMDavid DawsonLast week, we were challenged to maintain fellowship with God by walking in the light. The letter of 1 John continues to explore this theme of fellowship with God, challenging us further to walk as Jesus did and to love like Jesus loved. We are reminded that even though we know the Father, are forgiven and have overcome the world, we must still seek to pattern our life on ChristAudio
Walk in the Light - September 14, 2008 PMDavid DawsonHow can we relate to a God of light, in whom there is no darkness at all? 1 John calls us to walk in the light, but what exactly does this mean? What must we do to maintain a fellowship with God? As we begin to dig into this significant letter, we will ponder each of these questions. John gives us some practical insights as to how we, who are far from perfect, can relate with a holy God.Audio
God Talk #1 - September 14, 2008 AMDave MarttunenToday, Pastor Dave is starting the first of a 3 part series on Prayer. For many people, prayer is a mystery. They may have learned a prayer poem as a child… “Now I lay me down to sleep, I pray the Lord my soul to keep…” Ancient, odd (what kid talks to anyone-adult or peer-like that?), and mysterious (death can happen, but what kid really thinks about that each day?) Others may have encountered prayer as something offered in a church service and it was prepared, formal, and ancient; it unused language like Thee, Thou, and other odd word endings. Rarely does prayer in public or the nursery inspire the hearers to say, “Wow, I want to talk to God like that!” This is the goal of these 3 messages titled “God Talk”: to want to pray and to learn to pray well. The Word of Life - An Introduction to 1 John - Sept 7, 2008 PMDavid DawsonThis evening we begin a new teaching series on 1 John and we find that it is a fitting preparation for communion. John was concerned to proclaim the word of life. Reflecting on the fact that Jesus himself is the word of life and that in him we have eternal life, our celebration of communion is filled with confidence and hope.Audio
Exposed - August 31, 2008 AMDave MarttunenWhat would I do if I knew I would never be caught? Today, we follow the actions of a man after God's own heart, a man of great character, a man like us, and see how he acts in what he thinks is secret. David steals another man's wife, then he covers her pregnancy with murder, and finally he marries Bathsheba quickly to hide the guilt and possible shame. The sins are neatly covered. But one truth is forgotten: with God watching there are no secrets - ever. Today's message, "Exposed", traces out a fact of life for the follower of Jesus Christ - there are no secrets - ever.Audio
Godliness & Perseverance - August 31, 2008 PMDavid DawsonThis evening, we conclude our series on 1 Timothy. We will look at Paul's personal challenge to Timothy, recognizing that if we want to see Christianity advanced, we need to receive this message personally as well.Audio
