"Building Your Legacy" - Rooted: A Study in Romans Part 1
June 28, 2009 AM
Dave Marttunen

Today, Pastor Marttunen begins a 10 part series on the book of Romans. These first five chapters of Romans teach us our roots in Christ. Today's message, based on the first chapter, is a call to our revolutionary roots which create a lasting legacy of hope for our community. The church is meant to be an agent of change for individuals, families, culture and community. When true to its roots, the gospel of Jesus Christ (lived out by the Church) is seen as not only a hope but also as the means of life change. Churches like Central are revolutionary. They cannot help themselves as they choose to enter the lives of neighbourhoods and cities as determined as they enter the lives of their families and friends with the same hope. Choosing your legacy sets us on a revolutionary path.

Preach Jesus

June 21, 2009 PM
David Dawson

The example of Phillip is inspiring to all of us who desire to take the message of Christ to others. Phillip gives us two examples of how a person can be led by the Spirit to make an impact on unlikely people. Phillip takes the gospel to the Samaritans and to an Ethiopian official. Not only are these significant events in the global expansion of the gospel, but they encourage us to be led by the Spirit to preach Jesus to others.

First Steps to Forgiveness

June 21, 2009 AM
David Dawson

Both repentance and forgiveness are unnatural acts. Our sinful tendency is to become self righteous, refusing to forgive or proud and unwilling to repent. Yet the scriptures teach us that we should always take the first step to forgiveness either by repenting or by forgiving. Although the first step to forgiveness is often difficult, especially when the other person refuses to repent, this pattern is modeled by Christ and is a source of great blessing to us.

Maintaining Momentum in the face of Opposition

June 14, 2009 PM
David Dawson

Stephen is the first recorded martyr in the church and his death is a significant turning point in the life of the early church. The rise of opposition, although terrible, was used by God to spread the influence of the church. Stephen’s sermon to his persecutors also serves as a reminder that God is present with us in all circumstances.

We've got the Compass

June 7, 2009 AM
Dave Marttunen

Today, Pastor Marttunen will teach from the life of Christ in Mark chapter one. As we observe Jesus, he is overworked and set up by his followers to continue over-working to meet their expectations. This is the take away lesson: “If you don’t have a Plan A for your life, you will be living everyone else’s Plan B.” In the middle of incredible opportunity, Jesus says no, and moves (leads) the disciples into his life purpose. What Jesus did (not just the pattern but the principles), is the means for us to stay grounded and clear in the uncertainty and chaos of our times. Jesus teaches us by example and by truth how to find our way forward.
