Reason for Hope

Reason for Hope #1

As we focus today on the idea of inspiring faith in Jesus, I am reminded that we live in a culture that strongly resists faith. Our culture is skeptical of religion and there are many roadblocks to understanding the Christian message. What must we do to speak meaningfully about Jesus in our culture today?

Inspire Faith

Faith, the Bible says, is equivalent to trust. Trust, the Bible says, can be put in anything. The better the object, the more certain the outcome. Faith in God is certain because it is not dependent on us but Him. Our belief does not make anything real; rather our faith claims what is real as the source of our confidence, which makes certain our hope. As we understand what faith is and how it works, Hebrews 11:1 begins to loom large in our thinking, and becomes the foundation for our living: ―Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

Worship Wholly

Centered Life has God at the core. When Jesus Christ is on the throne of our lives, when we worship Him wholly, our lives then revolve around His purpose. We stop making God serve us in ways that make sense to us as we receive the love God has lavished on us in Jesus Christ. Receiving God's grace is the means to a centered life, and a centered life is the way God is best worshiped. Worship Wholly describes all of us all the time for God. This morning Pastor Marttunen is teaching us from 1 Corinthians 10 exploring in this message what it means for us to live out, "...Whatever you do, do all for the glory of God".

Zechariah - By My Spirit

The message of Zechariah is coming to me at the right time of my life. Lately. I have been feeling overwhelmed by everything that must be done. The fall is a busy time and when things get busy, I tend to go it alone. The vision of Zechariah 4 reminds me that we were never made to work alone. We are made to be vessels of God‟s Spirit. It is not our might or power, but God‟s Spirit who will bring success.

Choosing Christ

The great risk of a balanced life is that it puts the focus in the wrong place. Balance becomes all about me; my values, my sense of fulfillment, my stress, my resources, and on and on and…. The Bible does not speak about balance. It does speak about rest, it does speak about priorities, but it does not use the equivalent of balance. The less than obvious reason is that the quest for balance puts me on the throne of my life and Christ in a secondary position. The Christian does not seek balance, but a more radical shift under the leading of God the Holy Spirit. The maturing follower of Jesus seeks God above all. Our fall series is titled „Centered Life‟. We have designed it to examine six radiant spokes that support Christ at the core of our being. Today‟s message, “Choosing Christ”, challenges us to make an ongoing choice to follow Jesus Christ in all of life.

Life in the Spirit

Romans 8:12-17

Does freedom of speech mean that we can spew hatred toward other races? Does our liberty mean that we can take advantage of the weakness of others? It is easy in these cases to understand that our freedom has limits or boundaries. We are free within certain or specific terms. But what of the obligations of freedom? Does freedom come with those as well as limits? Now we are set up to understand the Bible’s teaching on life in the Holy Spirit. When God himself takes up residence in the life of the Christian, what does that mean for us in everyday living?
