From Success to Significance - July 27, 2008 AM
Dave Marttunen
Children vault into space on a teeter-totter. In the right place any child can lift the weight of their parent. The lever is a simple and elegantly efficient tool. Archimedes, an early Greek mathematician, celebrated the power of the lever when he said; “Give me a place to stand and I can move the world.” If we have the right tool in the right place we can shift the weight of the world. David does that in 2 Samuel 8. He shifts the base of power, he shifts the wealth of this world, and he shifts the focus of the world from false idols to God’s glory. God gives him a place to stand and he shifts his world. David moves from success to significance as he decides to use his natural ability to achieve his passion for God’s glory. All of us can live out this experience. All of us can use our natural ability to succeed in a purpose driven life.
