Christ in Focus # 2

Knowing God can not be reduced to a simple learning exercise that keeps us at a distance. He resists that kind of approach. What we quickly discover as we learn about God is that we are affected by what we learn. This is why the disciple John could record the words of Jesus; “This is life eternal, that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent,” John 17:3. As iron filings cannot resist the pull of a magnet, so our knowledge of God pulls us toward Him. By nature the one responds to the other. With God, when we have understood and embraced our hope in Christ, we find a thirst to know Him. As our knowledge of God grows our Joyful Thanksgiving flows.
