As I went to the McCall’s Brothers funeral home to ask if I could borrow a casket for this morning service, one of the funeral directors shared his concern with me that fewer and fewer people these days were taking the time to confront death. There is a trend away from having funerals and from having caskets at funerals. It seems that our culture is uncomfortable with confronting death. The same can be true spiritually. We are hesitant to admit the deadness in our life. Jesus however is a little more bold. He confronted the church in Sardis with the fact that they were spiritually dead. But as he did this he presented himself as the key to Spiritual life. My hope this morning is that we would be willing to confront our own spiritual deadness and that this would lead us to seek revival in Christ.
