How the City will see the Holy Spirit at work in our Church

John Piper powerfully wrote: “Missions is not the ultimate goal of the Church. Worship is. Missions exists because worship doesn’t. Worship is ultimate, not missions, because God is ultimate, not man. When this age is over, and the countless millions of the redeemed fall on their faces before the throne of God, missions will be no more. It is a temporary necessity. But worship abides forever.” Today in part 6 in our series in Acts, Pastor Dave Marttunen is teaching us what happened then and now when spirit-filled people worship God.

Our Story, God's Story

Sept 21, 2012
Kevin Thiessen

Audio

I am so tired of faking it. Can others see behind my mask? Do I dare let you in? What if I told you who I am?"
Do you long to be real? If so, are you ready to trust God and others with who you really are? God wants you to discover your destiny and walk you into the reasons he placed you on this earth. No matter how old, how broken, how tired, or how frightened you are … no matter how many times you’ve failed, God longs for the day when he gets to walk you into your destiny.

Asking for the Best

Oct 14, 2012
David Dawson

Audio / Questions / Leaders

Too often we approach God on our terms and ask for the things we think we need. God is a gracious Father and loves to give us good gifts
but do we ask for the best? As we have been going through the book of Acts and learning about the Holy Spirit, my challenge for you this morning is to recognize what God has for us in his Spirit and then to earnestly ask him to give us his best.

When we read narrative accounts in the Bible, we are confronted with a choice. Are these accounts historically descriptive; that is, do they tell the reader what happened then and there? Or are they, along with the description of the story, to some extent, prescriptive; that is, the account informs us what will, could, or should happen in our lives today? Our view, or interpretation of this chapter, has sharply divide Churches in our day over their teaching on the Holy Spirit.

How we honestly misuse the Bible

Everyone likes to have power in their corner. We naturally pull rank, lower the boom, exercise authority, and claim superiority. Kids do it; “my Dad is bigger than your Dad…” It is easy to trot out the power tools when we think we are right (don’t we always?) and especially when we want an immediate or important (to us) result. In today’s text, honest, well meaning followers of Jesus use the Bible to support their actions. Nothing wrong there, except the command; Wait. We will learn through this story in the life of the early Church that we can mean well and fall short. We can have the Word of God and leave out the Spirit of the Word.
