The Value of Persistence - June 29, 2008 AM
Dave Marttunen

David was anointed as the heir to the throne, but after Saul's death he had to fight for another 7 years to obtain it. How is it that after God has promised us something we need to work to obtain it? Is God unwilling, are our expectations out of alignment? Today we will discover that persistence, patience and endurance are essential components of following God's plan. Promises from God are not free-rides forward. Promises from God are more like a farmer's knowledge (planted seeds grow) than a slacker's hope (do nothing and get rich). Today, Pastor Dave Marttunen continues his series on David's life.

Signs of a Wolf among the Sheep - June 22, 2008 PM
Dave Marttunen

Paul reminds Timothy of how to spot a wolf in the flock. As the Church is moving forward to serve Christ, there will be wolfs from time to time appearing in the flock. Sometimes they arise through an external infiltration, and sometimes they transition among us from one who seeks the Kingdom to one who is seeking his own interest using kingdom language. Paul coaches us to spot wolves among us before they rip lambs and the flock apart.

Less Than Perfect - June 15, 2008 AM
Dave Marttunen

This side of Heaven we live with reality, no one's perfect. Knowing that and adjusting to that are different. We receive grace from God when we admit we are not perfect (sinners). However, giving grace is not the same as receiving it. We may bask in the joy of being grace receivers and still withhold giving grace to people around us. David learned to give grace. The words that David spoke at Saul's and Jonathan's funeral show a heart after God that gives what it receives. Today we face the challenge of being grace givers in our relationships... because this side of heaven no one is perfect.

Lay Down Your Sword - June 8, 2008 AM
Dave Marttunen

Vengeance and justice are close allies. Justice is willing to wait; vengeance is over-eager to act. Justice puts the sword in God’s hand; vengeance keeps the sword in our own hands. Today we will watch a wise woman disarm David so that God will be glorified in his life. The call from God’s word to all of us is to lay down our cry for vengeance and to wait for God’s plan for our justice. Justice on every personal level belongs to God and it is a mark of the maturing disciple to leave the sword of justice in the hand of God.

Workout - June 1, 2008 PM
Dave Marttunen

Tonight Pastor Marttunen continues his series based on 1 Timothy. This evening’s message focuses on being conscientious while serving bosses and owners. We cannot control many things in our lives, but we can control our work ethic. It is our work ethic that glorifies Christ as we seek to advance the kingdom and bring social change to our community.

Alone with God - June 1, 2008 AM
Dave Marttunen

How do you light a fire when the wood is wet, ring a bell when the clapper’s gone, or catch a breath when the water is over your head? Tough spots happen. By nature, tough spots are unpredictable. They are also overwhelming in the moment. So what is our strategy to survive the moment as we look for direction? David’s life gives us the key. The key will be shaking in our hands as we use it, and the door itself might be opposite to what we want, yet the promise is that if we let God lead us we will find His purpose fulfilled and our lives satisfied.
