Salvation's History #7
David DawsonAudio In this final installment of our survey of the Old Testament, we will trace the theme of salvation blessings. The blessings which were lost in the fall can be described as rest and the presence of God. These blessings were partially restored in the gift of the promised land and the building of the temple but are more fully realized in Christ, the Holy Spirit and the coming new Jerusalem. May we be sure to lay hold of these blessings by remaining firm in our faith.

QuestionsYour concept of Christ fuels the spiritual progress of your life! Everything in Christianity flows from the person of Jesus. Outside of Christ, there is no message, no hope, and no plan in the New Testament, and the Old Testament takes on new proportions as the NT explains it. The message of the Bible is Jesus. John’s gospel, with few words, paints an unsurpassed portrait of Jesus Christ. This first hand account by John describes more than events in Jesus life as John goes behind the events and tells us what they mean. We will discover through John’s description that Jesus is a historical person supra historical existence. Jesus is God on mission. The life of Jesus is more than a statement on truth, he is the source of grace. We can only grow as followers of Jesus as we gain and maintain a proper concept of Jesus. As we do, we will worship him deeply and discover how to answer the questions that others pose to us about Him.

Salvation's History #6
David DawsonAudio As God revealed himself to the people of Israel in the Old Testament, he used many things to govern his relationship with them. He guided them with the law and established the sacrificial system to teach them about the need for atonement for sin. Another practical way in which God governed his relationship with the people was through the king. God made a covenant with king David, promising him that his lineage would always sit on the throne. God promised to use the king to lead his people into obedience and to protect them from their enemies. Once again this Old Testament institution was imperfect and the kings failed to live up to their role. Once again we look to Christ who is the perfect fulfillment of this Old Testament institution. Jesus Christ is the perfect king, who rules forever, who is victorious over God's enemies and who leads us to God.

Get Smart - A Study in Proverbs #9
Dave MarttunenAudio / Notes / Questions / LeadersFor the Spirit filled Christian, peace keeping is a sign of the Spirit‟s control and spiritual maturity in their lives. Truth can create conflict. So can attitude, words, challenge, contention and a host of other values, conditions, approaches and choices. So how can we, on the side of truth also be on the side of peace? Can we be sweet, kind, considerate, and also truthful, honest, and committed to righteousness? Why is it that those who are most assertive for truth are often the least attractive towards it? Proverbs holds answers, solutions, actions and means to becoming a peace keeper on the side of righteousness. Today, Pastor Marttunen concludes our morning series on Proverbs titled, „Get Smart‟.

Salvation's History #5
David DawsonAudio This evening we will look at the priesthood and sacrificial system of the Old Testament considering it’s role in the plan of salvation. This will certainly lead us to Christ who is the fulfillment of both the priesthood and sacrifice. This is perhaps the most clear example of how the Old Testament is but a shadow of the full reality in Christ.

Get Smart - A Study in Proverbs #8
David DawsonAudio / Notes / Questions / LeadersWhile not all of us are actively parenting young children, we are all being actively parented by God. As we consider God’s wisdom in parenting, it will give us insight in how we should respond to our heavenly father. Yet too often we resist God's guidance and flee from the pain of discipline. As we consider how God instructs us and disciplines us, we realize that we need to be wise children who respond to our heavenly father.

Guest Speaker
Doug FordhamAudio / Questions / LeadersThis morning, we welcome Doug Fordham, Director of Stewardship Ministries for the Fellowship of Evangelical Baptist Churches in BC and Yukon. Doug is a Chartered Accountant and for over 35 years has been helping people manage their finances and other resources that God has entrusted to them. His sermon is titled, “How to Know When to Stop Giving”. We‟re coming to that time of year when we get bombarded with pleas to give money to all sorts of causes—some good and some not so worthwhile. We have to make choices. But what about giving to God? Where does that fit in? How would we know when to stop giving to God? What would happen if we didn‟t stop? What‟s the risk? Is it worth a try?

Salvation's History #4
David DawsonAudio As we continue to explore how God has worked out his plan of salvation in history, we come to the giving of the law. After God delivered the people of Israel from slavery in Egypt, he brought them to the foot of Mount Sinai, where Moses went up on the mountain to receive from God the stone tablets of the law. But what was God's purpose in giving the law? Was it intended as a pathway to salvation? Many of us do not have a clear understanding of why God gave the law to Israel and we have a lot of questions about the validity of the law for today. Tonight, we will come to a clearer understanding of how the law contributes to God's plan of salvation and how the role of the law has changed with the coming of Christ.

Get Smart - A Study in Proverbs #7
Dave MarttunenAudio / Notes / Questions / Leaders“Where ignorance is bliss, tis folly to be wise. “ Living by this motto means that we would rather not know… We would rather not know that the chef sneezed on our delicious meal, or that there is a worm in the apple we are eating, or that the shoes we are wearing were made by an 11 year old in a 3rd world country, or that our diamond jewelery was first used to purchase guns for the Angola war. Knowledge can ruin our comfort. Knowledge can place on a us a burden for change, or a guilt for possession, or…Today, as we study how to fool proof our lives, we will learn both the benefits and cost of knowing God‟s ways.
